Uppark was destroyed by fire in 1989. Over a five-year period the house was meticulously restored to its condition immediately before the fire, not only the building fabric but also all wall finishes, fabrics, furnishings and artwork.
The fire site was treated as an archaeological site and all identifiable building remnants were repaired and reinstated into the repaired building.
A temporary works hangar was fitted out as a museum devoted to the fire, after the project.
Owned by The National Trust. Grade I listed.
